Twinkles the Elephant is an American animated Total Television Productions series that aired as part of the NBC Saturday morning cartoon King Leonardo and His Short Subjects in 1960. The series was a tie-in with Twinkles cereal, and the titular elephant Twinkles served as the mascot. The character was actually created by Total Television. The segment was the only segment on Short Subjects to not return in later syndication, primarily due to the FCC whom were stern about television shows consisting of cereal brand characters, as well as the character being dated regardless due to the cereal's discontinuation.

Wilbur claims that a ghost lives in a haunted house that he shows Twinkles, but he and Sanford believe there are no such thing as ghosts. Wilbur tells them to come back at sundown so he can show them. When they do, Wilbur invites them inside and slams them in. They hear ghost laughter which scares Sanford so badly he tries to open the door to leave, which is stuck shut. Twinkles turns his trunk into a hammer and knocks it down. When the three make their escape, so does Herman Hyena in a sheet, admitting it was a trick Wilbur made him do. Sanford claimed he wasn't scared.

Twinkles decides to build a house boat for the lake. Wilbur and Sanford see him and believe it is a good idea and they proceed to do it too, but they decide to make a raft instead, claiming Twinkles' boat is too hard to make. Twinkles warns them that a storm could come, but they laugh. However, when they get on the lake, thunder and dark clouds appear and make the water rough. Twinkles is safe, but Wilbur and Sanford's raft breaks apart. Twinkles recovers them and tells them that it pays to do the very best thing you can.

Twinkles and Sanford were talking with Thomas the Octopus, who missed hearing music since the showboat had left. Thomas mentioned he could play an instrument, and Sanford boasted about being the world's greatest musician. Twinkles suggested they start their own band, with Sanford teaching everyone how to play. They gathered their friends, picked out instruments, and gave a concert on the beach that very afternoon. When the music began, it sounded terrible except for Thomas's flute. Twinkles whispered an idea, and the band closed the curtain; moments later, a beautiful march played from behind it. The audience soon discovered that Thomas was playing all the instruments at once with his eight arms, becoming a one-man musical band!

Twinkles and his friends gathered at Twinkles' house, wondering what game to play. Suggestions flew, from marbles to building a treehouse, until Fulton proposed hide and seek. Twinkles volunteered to be "it," joking that he was too big to hide anyway. As he counted, everyone scattered to find hiding spots. Twinkles found Sanford on a streetlight, Wilbur in a barrel, and Fulton in a hedge. However, he couldn't find Jimmy the zebra. When Twinkles finally gave up, Twinkles finally gave up and called everyone in. Jimmy then revealed he had been standing in front of a picket fence, blending in perfectly with his stripes, and everyone laughed at his clever hiding spot.
